In general the town consists of many small hostels, bar and restaurants which accommodate backpackers looking for an inexpensive place to stay. Prices range from 5 to 10 per person. In the town area of Montanita you can expect a party atmosphere with bars on every corner and loud music. The Hotels and Hostels located on the point of Montanita offer a quiet, relaxing, and comfortable setting. Most people tend to want to party in town so the hotels located in the point area offer a nice relaxing option and a short walk down the beach to town. There are motor taxies that take you back and forth for 50 cents if you do want to walk. The point is the main surfing area of Montanita and therefore hosts the Reef Classic International surf contest every year. The beachbreak located directly south of the Main surfing point in Montanita is great for learning to surf. The Point itself is only for advanced surfers but it is fun to watch the surfers rip up the point from the Bar in la Casa Del Sol. The bar overlooks the point and offers a great view of the surf.
